Introduction to Noun Classes

IsiZulu nouns are organized into noun classes, each with specific prefixes. These classes determine how words agree with verbs, adjectives, and other parts of speech.

The first four noun classes are: • Class 1 (umu-): Singular humans • Class 2 (aba-): Plural humans • Class 3 (umu-): Singular objects/nature • Class 4 (imi-): Plural objects/nature
